I AM A SHIP is the time-bending story of two women from the same whaling family. Eliza is the gutsy wife of a whaling captain, and home is on board the Superior in 1858. Modern-day Pearl, newly widowed, discovers Eliza's extraordinary journal and dives back into the world of whaling, desperate to escape the grief of losing her husband. Both women gain strength and hope during an extraordinary year of adventure and catharsis, heightened by original chanteys and projections upon a sail. Based partly on my own experience, I AM A SHIP is a meditation on loss and the meaning of home.
